D1000 Gen1 – Cell Management Unit (CMU)

PHLN-3000-0004B

Overview

The D1000 Gen1 Cell Management Unit (CMU) is the distributed monitoring node in Prohelion’s battery management architecture. In this system, multiple CMUs are deployed throughout the battery pack to provide local cell monitoring, balancing, and data collection. Each CMU can monitor 1-8 lithium cells of any chemistry or form factor, with user-configurable voltage thresholds for maximum flexibility. The CMUs communicate with the Battery Management Unit (BMU) via CAN bus, creating a scalable distributed system where local intelligence handles cell-level operations while reporting to the central controller. This approach ensures optimal performance across large battery packs while maintaining system reliability and fault detection capabilities.

Note: The D1000 Gen1 represents our proven, cost-effective battery management solution. For applications requiring the latest features and enhanced performance, consider our upcoming D1000 Gen2 system which offers advanced capabilities and improved specifications.

Key Features

  • Universal Cell Compatibility: Supports any lithium chemistry cell with user-configurable voltage thresholds
  • Scalable Monitoring: Each unit monitors 1-8 cells with simple point-to-point ribbon cable connections
  • Active Cell Balancing: 250mA balance current for maintaining cell equilibrium
  • High Precision Measurement: 1mV voltage resolution with 2°C temperature accuracy
  • Network Powered: Powered from CAN network, not cells, preventing contribution to cell leakage
  • Comprehensive Fault Detection: Redundant voltage sensing, cross-checked A/D reference, and communication timeouts

Applications
